Mara Jo Castor lives in the mountains of Canon City, Colorado with Rick, her husband of 40 years. Prior to moving to Colorado in September of 2013, they had lived their entire lives in Central Indiana. When they married in 1977, each brought a daughter and a son from a previous marriage into the newly formed family.
On August 4, 2008, Mara Jo's son, Sgt. Gary Michael Henry, was killed in Iraq while serving with the 38th MP unit of the Indiana National Guard.
In the past 8½ years Mara Jo has worked with the Indiana Gold Star Mothers Organization, Survivors Outreach Services of the Indiana National Guard, The TAPS Organization, (Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors).
She and another Gold Star mother worked together to form the Central Indiana Chapter of the Gold Star Mothers in 2009.
She completed and passed the online Grief course/training, required by the TAPS organization to become a mentor to other mothers who have lost a son/daughter in the military.
Most recently Mara Jo worked with Beverly Shoemaker, as Bev developed the Treasured Tears ministries to help grieving mothers.
One of the deepest desires of Mara Jo's heart is to carry on her sons legacy of service to others, and to be an instrument of God's peace and comfort.
